Panels and tabs

Each study panel has its own strip: a tab picker (content type), a context area that changes by tab, and actions (navigation, history, link, search-in-page, panel settings). When a panel is narrower than about 600px, the app switches to a compact toolbar and moves some actions to a floating pill at the bottom of the panel.

The tab pill may show only the icon without the text label. The center strip scrolls or wraps; the floating pill holds History, Link, Find, Maximize, and Settings duplicates.

Tablet and desktop

With more width, the tab pill shows the active tab name and chevron. Icon labels under actions appear when Show button labels is on and the panel is not compact. Optional link indicators show in the tab menu for types that support linking.

Tab picker (“Select content”)

Tap the colored pill on the left to open the menu. Pick one content type; the icon and label update. A small badge can appear on the tab icon when a tab needs your attention. Menu rows can show a link when that tab is set to follow link mode in panel settings.

Bible — Scripture module; main reading view.
Commentary — commentary modules tied to passages.
Dictionary — lexicons and topical dictionaries.
Book — general books / references (non-Bible “Book” modules).
Map — Bible maps and geographic modules.
Notes — your notes files and note editor.
Search — corpus search within the app.
Tools — hub for Link graph, Timeline, and Word analysis (choose inside the context row).

Only these eight appear in the picker; graphs/timeline/analysis are sub-modes under Tools, not separate top-level tabs.

Compact vs full panel toolbar

  • Full (panel width ≥ about 600px): every action listed below stays in the top bar (when that tab exposes it).
  • Compact (< 600px): the same Prev / Next and context row stay at the top; History, Link, Maximize, in-page search, and Panel settings move to a bottom floating pill so the center stays readable.

Shared actions (when shown)

Icons below are Bootstrap equivalents of the in-app Material icons. Tooltips use the app strings (e.g. “Previous”, “Link panel”).

Previous
Go to previous chapter, article, or step for the current module. Hidden when the active tab is Map, Search, or Tools (and the internal graph/timeline/analysis modes use the same rule).
Next
Forward navigation; same visibility rule as Previous.
History
Opens the panel history drawer. Omitted from the top bar on Map and Tools. In compact mode, History appears on the floating pill for Tools (but never for Map). If the panel is wide enough that the pill is hidden, the Tools tab does not show a History button in this strip.
Link / Unlink
Toggles whether this panel follows the link group. Not shown for Notes or Book, or for Tools/graph/timeline/analysis tabs. Compact mode: pill only.
Maximize / Restore
Fullscreen this panel or return to the split layout (when the layout allows). Compact: floating pill.
Search (in-page)
Opens the find-in-page bar for the web content (highlights matches). Hidden when the active tab is already Search (global search has its own field). Highlighted when in-page search is active. Compact: floating pill.
Settings
Opens the end drawer for this panel: Bible / commentary / dictionary / … options and the Panel tab (tabs enabled, link targets, colors). Compact: floating pill.

Context strip by tab type

Middle of the toolbar—changes completely depending on the active tab.

Bible

  • Unified selector pill — shows module name and verse reference (e.g. “Bible • Gen 1:1”). Tap opens the combined book / verse picker.
  • Leading shelf icon — opens the book selector directly.
  • Edit / pencil path — switches the pill to a fast reference field so you can type or adjust a verse reference quickly, then apply.

Commentary

  • Same pill pattern: commentary module + passage reference; unified selector opens commentary-specific UI.

Dictionary

  • Pill shows topic and dictionary name; tap opens dictionary / topic selection.

Book

  • Pill shows topic and book module; tap opens the selector for that book type.

Notes

  • Pill: note file + topic/label context.
  • Add — creates a new note entry (toolbar button beside the pill).

Search

  • Search field — type a query; supports dropping text into the field.
  • Book scope pill — choose which book/corpus to search.
  • Run search — primary button to execute the query (icon-only on very narrow widths).

Map

  • Map set — choose map module / layer set.
  • Location — pick or refine a location (opens unified selector step).
  • No Prev/Next in the top row for maps; History is also omitted from the top bar (floating pill still skips History for Map).

Tools

  • Tool picker — one pill with a chevron opens a small menu: Link graph, Timeline, Word analysis.
  • Word analysis only: an extra Range control sets the passage span for analysis.
  • Prev/Next and History are hidden in this mode; focus is on tool-specific navigation inside the tool view.

Quick matrix: action × tab

Tab Prev / Next History (full bar) Link In-page search
Bible Yes Yes Yes Yes
Commentary Yes Yes Yes Yes
Dictionary Yes Yes Yes Yes
Book Yes Yes No Yes
Map No No (top bar) Yes Yes
Notes Yes Yes No Yes
Search No Yes Yes No (tab is search)
Tools No No (top bar); pill when compact No Yes

History: “top bar” means the full-width strip; on Tools the drawer is only on the floating pill when the panel is compact. Maximize is omitted here but follows layout rules. Compact mode still exposes Link / in-page search / settings via the pill where the tab allows (e.g. no History on Map in the pill).

Panel settings (drawer)

From Settings, you can choose which tabs are visible per panel, which modules link to other panels, background color, and tab-specific options (Bible compare mode, map controls, search options, etc.). Presentation adapts to screen size; behaviour is the same as in Bible settings (panel drawer) where those topics apply.
